Size:

  • 18-1/2 in. (47 cm).
  • Weighs about 2-1/2 lb. (1 kg).

Habitat:

  • Lakes, saltwater bays, ponds.
  • Eats mollusks, crustaceans, insects.

Notes:

  • Very similar to Barrow’s goldeneye, but male’s head is greenish, not purplish (although difficult to distinguish at a distance). Female has slightly longer bill than Barrow’s.
  • Similar to scaup but has a white chest.
