Habitat:

  • Salt and freshwater marshes and swamps, as well as rivers, ponds and lakes with aquatic vegetation.

Notes:

  • Builds nests out of grasses and other aquatic vegetation attached to marsh plants over water.
  • Calls include cackling and guttural noises.
  • Eats frogs, insects and aquatic vegetation.
