Habitat:

  • Open grassy areas and shallow, freshwater marshes

Notes:

  • Eats mostly grains but will also eat berries, insects, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals.
  • Builds nests with twigs and stems concealed in aquatic vegetation and surrounded by water.
